Glion Institute of Higher Education celebrates its 50th anniversary

400 Glion alumni gathered above the resort-city of Montreux to celebrate the institution’s half-century of success and to revive the Glion spirit together. The hospitality school, as well as the city of Montreux, celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.

Glion alumni are the reason for the school’s great reputation as they represent the institution in their bright careers in different fields all around the world. For example, the positions that some French alumni hold reflect the diversity of the professional opportunities available for graduates of Glion Institute of Higher Education: Olivier Constantin is today Director of LCL Bank for enterprises in Paris, Hector Vericel is Sales Manager at Kempiski’s hotel in Geneva and Linda Kennou is HR Analyst for Cisco in London.
During this event, the alumni mainly celebrated their common values: their passion for work, punctuality, availability, enthusiasm and rigor.

The school's founders,  Frédéric Tissot and Walter Hunziker, would be proud that Glion is still growing and delivering benefits to students and alumni 50 years after their vision materialized on the hill above Montreux. “How can anyone evaluate, guide and manage the multiple phases of the hotel and food-service business without knowing something about the economics of transport; the functioning of a travel agency; the work of a tour operator; the role, financing, administration of a Tourist Office or a convention centre?” said Walter Hunziker a few decades ago.

These two visionaries played a relevant role in the development of Swiss tourism and higher education for the hospitality management profession. Their values that formed the Glion spirit have been guiding the institution for the last 50 years and still persevere today.
