LEADERSHIP TEAM: BARBARA MILLER
Barbara has worked with Glion Institute of Higher Education (GIHE) for over twenty years, originally coming to Switzerland in 1996. Born in the UK, she has extensive experience of the hospitality industry and education, working within hotels, consultancy, and training.
A member of the Institute of Hospitality (MIH), Barbara studied at Bournemouth University and the Open University (both UK). She holds a MBA in Business Administration and Management, as well as a Certificate of Education from Greenwich University (UK). She is currently working towards a DBA in International Business from Walden University (USA).
Barbara’s experience of hospitality led her to working as a lecturer in London, as well as Switzerland’s Hosta Hotel and Tourism School, located in Leysin. After GIHE’s acquisition of Hosta, Barbara joined GIHE’s Bulle campus in July 2000, where she has held a number of roles. Originally a programme leader and lecturer, Barbara has designed and developed courses, undergraduate and graduate-level programs, and has helped open and develop the Les-Roches Gruyère University of Applied Sciences’ BSc programme. She then moved into the roles of Dean of Undergraduate Studies in 2013, Dean of Faculty (Bulle campus) in 2015, and Academic Dean in July 2017.
She also enjoys developing campus-based and online applied learning tools that help students develop competencies, experiences and knowledge in industry-based problem solving environments.
