Field study trips are where classroom learning comes to life. For Glion’s MSc in Luxury Management and Guest Experience, first semester students get to visit one of the world’s top luxury destinations: Paris. Student Ambassador, Charanpreet Kaur Narenderpal Sabharwal, was on the trip and she gave us this exclusive diary…

Charanpreet’s diary – Day 1:

Everyone was really looking forward to our Semester 1 field trip to Paris! We began by taking a TGV train from Lausanne in Switzerland to Paris, arriving by the evening at our home for next five days in Paris: Hotel du Rond-Point des Champs-Elysees. This is a classic luxury hotel with history, art and heritage. Its amazing interiors and classic luxury hotel atmosphere made us feel like going back to the classic era of time. We relaxed and explored around the area of Champs Elysees on our own, gearing ourselves up for the next day, featuring the Louis Vuitton Paris store visit and workshop.

Day 2:

Day 2 began with an amazing Parisian breakfast at the hotel. After which, we had a short briefing session with our Professor, Dr. Nicoletta Giusti. Then our first visit was to Louis Vuitton Maison Champs-Elysees, where we had a guided tour. Our host explained about the design of the maison and LV products – it was a great experiential learning. After that, we had a presentation about the Louis Vuitton brand by the HR Development Coordinator EMEA @ Louis Vuitton and a Q&A session as well. There was a great opportunity for interaction and networking with the HR representative after the presentation. Following the Louis Vuitton visit, we were given an option to join our Professor for a visit to Leclaireur – a concept store in Paris.

Day 3:

Today’s highlight was a visit to Veuve Clicquot in Reims, France. After an early morning trip out of Paris, we had an amazing and detailed guided tour of the Veuve Clicquot champagne cellar. From the company’s history to the making of champagne, everything was so well explained and it was absolutely interesting to discover so deeply about it. We had a professional tasting of the champagne as well!

Day 4:

Today we had a visit to the Baccarat Museum, where the CEO, Daniela Riccardi, gave an inspiring talk about the brand Baccarat and about her career journey. This was followed by a Q&A session, where we could ask some of our questions to her. Then we had a guided tour of the Baccarat Museum, followed by a cocktail.

Day 5:

Today we had our visit to Foundation Louis Vuitton. Here we saw different artworks and explored the museum. After the visit we were given some free time to shop and explore the fashionable, artistic capital city of France. Also we were given an option to join our Professor to explore Fragonard Museum.

Day 6:

Our last day in Paris – the week has gone so quickly! Today we visited the grand, classic and historical Parisian hotel, the ‘Intercontinental Hotel Paris Le Grand’. First we were given a presentation about the property by Myriam Munnick, Director of Sales and Marketing, who gave in-depth information about the history of the hotel, current luxury hotels in Paris and also new properties in the pipeline. This was followed by a Q&A session, after which we had a tour of the hotel. Then we had some free time, until the evening when we took our train back to Glion. All in all, a great experiential learning trip!
