Glion Nutrition Awareness Day, which took place on Tuesday 27 March, saw our students engage in exciting workshops and activities, as well as hearing from industry specialists. Our student ambassador Calum tells us more.

Organising the event

The planning of the day began all the way back in March 2017, after Swiss university HES Fribourgconducted a survey among Glion students. They asked us what we feel are the most important elements in our life regarding our health. Over 30 per cent of us replied with the nutritional aspect. After this, our Welfare Ambassador team decided it would be the perfect opportunity to organise the Glion Nutrition Awareness Day.

My fellow students organized goodie bags filled with brain food – dry fruit, nuts and chocolate – along with an explanation as to why such foods are nutritional. This included the richness in vegetal protein, the ability to boost our immune systems and the antioxidant properties. They have also created a range of quizzes, which would be conducted by our ambassadors and our visiting specialists.

Hearing from experts

Attendees were provided with insight from the local Swiss experts specialized in nutrition and sports – Marie-Eve Kappler and Reber Simone. They shared their specialist knowledge, as well as provided individual consultations.

Clinique La Praire, a world-renowned company, also attended the event, giving a presentation on the popular trend of superfoods. The latter are having a significant impact among the culinary scene. Their nutritionists Emmanuelle Durbian and Olga Donica, as well as their chef Filippo Tawil, provided students with the opportunity to try different healthy drinks, cakes and cereal. Alongside this, they informed us about the good ways to prepare healthy meals and gave us a variety of healthy recipes to try at home.

Hearing expert advice and getting the chance to interact with specialists made Glion Nutrition Awareness Day very insightful. We were all able to develop our understanding of current trends and key knowledge of healthy foods.

A day to remember

The students had an enjoyable day, getting to sample different foods and learning new things. Our quiz was also a success, with first place winning lunch at Glion’s new health-conscious Fresh restaurant (Chloé Morrisson), second winning a Glion-branded t-shirt and hat (Kristen Gatti) and third place winning a Glion special water-bottle (Thalia Tasrini and Wafa Waseem).
