A brief taste of Glion was enough to convince Kyung-min Lee that the school could help her achieve her career ambitions.

Kyung-min, from Korea, was among the young people from all over the world who flew in for the 2017 edition of Glion’s ever-popular Summer Program series. She chose a week at Glion campus, in the hills overlooking beautiful Lake Geneva, and it proved to be a Swiss experience to remember.

Now, less than two years later, Kyung-min is back in Glion, having started her Bachelor’s degree studies in February.

She says, “I was thinking about my future and the possibilities of working in the hotel industry, or in luxury brand management. My mom knew about Glion and she recommended it; so for me the Summer Program was a great way to experience the school for a week before making my final choices.”

The Summer Program is purpose-designed to provide a flavor of Glion’s academic and practical arts teaching – Kyung-min remembers learning how to mix cocktails as being a particular highlight. But the week is also about having fun and tasting some of the best that Switzerland has to offer.

“I really enjoyed the visits to the chocolate and cheese factories; and because it was summer we could do some activities on the lake, which was amazing. What I didn’t expect was that we also got to sample the world-famous Montreux Jazz Festival, which happened to be running at the same time as our program,” says Kyung-min.

Friendships to last a lifetime

Along with lasting memories, Kyung-min says she has found lifelong friends among her fellow Summer Program participants. Several of these friends have also chosen Glion for their Bachelor’s, taking advantage of the special arrangement that sees their Summer Program fee credited against their first semester’s tuition fees.

“I’m currently in my Practical Arts semester and I’m working in our fine dining restaurant, Le Bellevue,” says Kyung-min. “It’s really fun but really challenging – there are so many cheeses I have to remember how to pronounce! Overall, I’d say coming to Glion has helped to make me more outgoing as a person. Just mixing with so many nationalities and cultures has been great – I’ve learned how to say ‘hello’ in all sorts of languages!”

· Our London-based 2019 Summer Program is now full, but there is still time to secure one of the final few places in Switzerland – find out more and to make your application, but be quick!
