ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Glion’s academic pillars

From it’s beginnings as Glion Hotel School, Glion Institute of Higher Education has evolved into a modern institute of university-level business studies. Our unique business degree curriculum was developed to merge the Swiss hospitality education tradition of hands-on learning methods with contemporary industry knowledge and university academics in four distinct academic pillars.

Professional Development
Using the time-tested method of hospitality education, Glion’s programs build progressively to develop professional skills and knowledge for a wide range of management roles in the experience industries. It includes the fundamentals of industry standards, operations, administration, internships and business courses with industry-related specializations.

Applied Learning
Turning knowledge into wisdom requires experience, and that is the role of applied learning. For undergraduate students, this entails hands-on courses in restaurant and hotel operations. For upperclassmen and graduate students this teaching method involves case-studies with industry partners and applied business projects where they put their knowledge to the test.

Entrepreneurship
To be the owner or general manager of a complex business, one must have core business competencies plus knowledge for diverse departments and markets. The entrepreneurship courses in Glion’s programs develop fundamental business skills in core areas such as managerial finance, marketing, and law.

General Education
As a university-level accredited institution, Glion offers more than just hospitality education and management courses. It proposes a wide array of general education courses aiming to develop language skills, cultural knowledge, creativity, and life skills.
