Leadership Group: Joachim Schuette
Director of Operations
German-born Joachim is from a hospitality family; owners of a hotel and restaurant business in the town of Werl, in North-Rhine Westphalia. He spent 10 years running the family’s hotel, between 1988 and 1998, but before that he trained as a professional chef and worked in his native country as well as in Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
After leaving the family hotel, Joachim embarked on an international journey in hospitality, taking in seven countries and a variety of senior managerial roles. This included 10 years at Shangri-La, where he worked in the operations field as Resident Manager and General Manager. He also spent three years in the corporate office in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for developing new properties for the group. Joachim’s global hospitality experience culminated in The Maldives, where he was Pre-opening General Manager of the ultra-luxe Velaa Private Island and also GM at the Dusit Thani Resort.
A move back to Europe and into the world of academia followed, as Joachim joined EHL, becoming Associate Dean of Practical Arts and being subsequently promoted to Managing Director of Hospitality in 2018. He moved to Glion in February 2021, as Director of Operations, a role in which he can deploy his exceptional experience of the operational side of hospitality.
