Managerial Accounting and Financial Analysis

Marie-Aline heads the Master’s programs team, dedicated to enhancing Glion’s graduate students’ learning and experience. Prior to joining Glion, she taught at Paris-Dauphine University and boasts over 15 years’ industry experience, mainly as a finance manager. Marie-Aline graduated from HEC Paris (Paris) and holds a PhD from Paris-Dauphine University.

Jonathan Humphries

Jonathan Humphries

Hotel Development & Asset Management Specialisations

Jonathan boasts over 20 years of experience in hotels, consulting and development. He is chairman of HoCoSo, a consulting company focusing on creating new hotel concepts. Jonathan previously created education courses in hotel planning, development, investment and asset management for Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Beijing Hospitality Institute and the University of Zurich.

Pia Huh

Pia Huh

Management Finance & Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Dissertation

Pia joined Glion in 1999, and has taught courses in hospitality real estate finance, property asset management, corporate finance, portfolio management, and management finance and accounting. She holds an MSc in Banking and Finance, an MPS in Hospitality Real Estate Finance, and is currently pursuing a DBA in an area of pension funds.

Business Development and Strategy

Ed joined Glion in 2008 and currently works as a lecturer. Prior to moving into academia, he worked as a General Manager, in charge of Renaissance Hotels under the Marriott banner. He originally studied at Leeds Beckett University and holds an MSc in International Hospitality Management.

Stephen Humphrey

Stephen Humphrey

Applied Statistics, Essentials.of Destination Management, International Hospitality and Service Marketing

Stephen has a respected and senior role within the training and education sector. Therefore he ensures his own skills and knowledge are always relevant and up-to-date. His work primarily focuses on organizational performance management in sectors such as entertainment (casinos), sport (football hospitality), travel (airlines), and science and technology.

Denise Shelley Newnham

Denise Shelley Newnham

Leadership and intercultural management

Prior to joining Glion, Denise worked at the University of Geneva and the University of Helsinki. After starting her career as a banquet and bar manager in South Africa, Denise then obtained her BA and Master’s degrees. She gained her PhD from the University of Bath, focusing on development work research.

Michael Heyward

Michael Heyward

People and Performance in the Workplace; Management of Food and Beverage; Hospitality Business and Operations

Michael has over 25 years’ experience in hospitality, particularly in revenue management, hotel operations and corporate roles. He has worked for independent hotels, IHG and AccorHotels, as well as five-star hotels across Europe, Asia and the Pacific. Michael has a proven track record for revenue and team development.

Susan Landtwing

Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility

Susan has over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry, having held a range of management positions in various hotels. She has been teaching hospitality management subjects at undergraduate level since 1998, and holds an MBA (with a specialization in hospitality) from Oxford Brookes University.

Paul joined Glion in 2008, and has taught on our Bulle, Glion and London campuses. Prior to this, he worked as a lecturer, programme manager and Head of School at a range of UK institutions. In 2015, Paul gained a Master’s degree from Glion in Organisational Training and Education.

Alain Gervaix

Alain Gervaix

Revenue Management; Digital Distribution Strategies; Hotel Business Strategy

Alain started his career in hotels, working in the Middle East, Switzerland and South-East Asia. He then moved into education, teaching finance, economics and more at both undergraduate and Master’s levels. Alain holds an MSc in Economics, a Diploma in Hotel Management and a Master’s in International Management.

Bertrand has been teaching at Glion for twenty years, lecturing in Food and Beverage for both our undergraduate and graduate programs. Before joining Glion, he held a number of management positions (particularly in restaurant operations) in France, Switzerland, Canada and the USA. Bertrand holds a Master’s in Hospitality Organizational Training and Management.

Martin has been teaching management and marketing for over twenty years, lecturing at undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds a BSc in Catering Administration, an MA in E-Learning and a PhD in Services Marketing. Prior to teaching, Martin began his career in hospitality, working in hotels, restaurants and bars.

Giovanni leads our International Event Management specialization, as well as our Marketing and Sales courses. He has had over 30 years of experience in a range of industries, taking on managerial roles at organizations in Europe, Russia and the USA. Giovanni holds an MBA in Marketing, Digital Communication and Sales Management.

Mike Abson

Mike Abson

The Entertainment Industries; Principals of Sport Marketing; International Event Management

Mike has been a lecturer at Glion since 2010, and boasts over 40 years’ experience in the event, sport and entertainment industry. He was previously a professional freestyle skier, working for The Canadian Ski Association, UEFA, FIFA, FIS and Swatch. Mike holds a BA in Marketing.

Claudio has been with Glion for more than 30 years, and currently designs and delivers courses related to tourism and events management. Alongside this, he is also a tutor of dissertations and other Capstone projects. His areas of expertise include destination management, transportation and sustainability in tourism.

Darren has been teaching various marketing subjects at Glion for over 11 years. He is currently teaching Hospitality Marketing Essentials. He holds an MBA in Hospitality Marketing from Les Roches Global Hospitality Education, as well as an SME Tourism Certificate from the University of South Africa.

 Bernd Rosenthal

Bernd Rosenthal

Fundraising for Events; Sports Commercialization and Governance; Hospitality - International Event Management

Bernd teaches various courses at Glion, from Semester 4 until Semester 7. Passionate about the events industry, Bernd also facilitates live event experiences for students during their final projects. In both 2015 and 2017, he delivered the biggest ever student-created events in Montreux with his student teams.

Michael has extensive experience of hotel and hospitality management, having set up a number of Swiss hospitality programs. Previously, he worked as a senior operations director, with over 25 years of international hospitality experience. Michael has also worked as a management consultant, specializing in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Suzanne has over 25 years of experience in business, marketing and academia. She has worked and taught across the globe, and originally joined Glion in 2016. A professional marketing and communications expert, Suzanne has been responsible for the growth of a range of global brands. She was appointed Head of Luxury Marketing and Brand Management in August 2017.

Chantal has over 30 years of teaching experience within hospitality. She has coached students for competitions, held a number of academic roles and has worked for a range of hospitality organizations across France. In 2011, Chantal won the world-renowned Meilleur Ouvrier de France award. She joined Glion in 2017.

Dominique Toulousy

Dominique Toulousy

MOF* Cuisine – Senior Lecturer

Over the course of his 30-year career, Dominique has managed and owned Michelin-starred restaurants, won prestigious awards and led his own gourmet training restaurant. His work as a chef has took him across the globe, gaining worldwide recognition when he won the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France award. He joined Glion in August 2017.

MOF* Cuisine – Senior Lecturer

Benoit joined Glion in July 2017, and boasts nearly 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury hotels, including Hôtel de Ville de Crissier, considered one of the finest restaurants in the world. In 2015, he received the world-renowned Meilleur Ouvrier de France award.

MOF* Traiteur – Executive Chef – Director of Food Production

Fabien’s experience as an academic instructor and chef has seen him teach at some of the world’s most esteemed restaurants and institutes. An experienced chef with accomplished skills in food and beverage, in 2011 Fabien was awarded the Meilleur Ouvrier de France accolade, a status only bestowed to the world’s most talented chefs and hospitality professionals.

Practical Arts

Eric began his career in the pastry shops in France. He then moved to the UK, taking on a number of Head Pastry and Sous Chef positions. While in the UK, Eric was part of the opening of Ascot’s Dorchester Collection hotel. He then returned to France, working as Head Pastry Chef at Relais Desserts.

Marc has an international background in food and beverage operations, working in the industry across three continents. He studied hospitality in both France and Switzerland. Marc has been teaching catering management and oenology, for both professionals and in higher education, since 2002.

Margaret Godwin

Margaret Godwin

English Language

Margaret teaches general education courses at Glion, as well as being a tutor for independent research studies, undergraduate dissertations and Master’s managerial reports. She has taught English in business schools in Japan, Belgium, Ireland and the UK. Her long and varied career has also seen her formerly lead Glion’s Language department.

Bruno Levasseur

Originally from France, Bruno joined Glion London in 2012. He currently convenes French at beginner, elementary and intermediate levels. A researcher in French politics, culture and society, aspects of Bruno’s work have appeared in a number of academic journals. He holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK).

Maryam Virchaux

Maryam Virchaux

Maryam teaches French language at beginner, elementary and intermediate level on Glion’s Bulle campus. Prior to this, she has worked as a Head of Department and Languages, covering class distribution, training and teaching. She holds a degree in teaching French from the University of Neuchâtel Switzerland.

Francesco has over ten years of pedagogical experience, teaching a range of courses, as well as several BA and MSc dissertations. He holds an MA in Communication Studies, a Master’s in Linguistics and a Doctorate in Sociolinguistics. Mario speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Lilia Sauvageat-Contla Landa

Spanish Language

Lilia teaches beginner and intermediate-level Spanish on our foreign language programs. An experienced Spanish lecturer, Lilia has previously worked in the USA on a bilingual program. She holds a BSc in Oceanology from the Autonomous University of Baja California and a language teacher certificate.
