Anna Andreoli

“I chose the HIP program to gain initial insight into the hospitality industry and its respective departments. Since I didn’t have any practical experience prior to coming to Glion, I felt I needed a high-quality immersion program in order to start the MSc right.

“During these intensive four weeks, I have learned the basics of fine dining kitchen and service, as well as housekeeping and front office. I also had the opportunity to experience first-hand the basics of the job, and got to learn from highly experienced instructors. With the new practical knowledge acquired I feel ready to start the MSc and become a manager with awareness of every aspect of their department.”

Clotilde Fonteny

“My undergraduate degree was a BBA with a focus on human resources, which I studied in Canada. Therefore, I had no real knowledge of the hospitality world. So, I chose Glion’s HIP program in order to open myself up to this field and prepare for my MSc.

“The goal of the MSc is to become a manager within a quality hotel, which means managing teams. However, it is hardly conceivable to want to supervise teams without real knowledge of the industry you’re working in. The HIP program, then, gave me the opportunity to discover the trades of the hospitality world in real conditions of high level.

“It gave me the opportunity to work with higher level teachers, to challenge myself with multicultural teams, to exchange with students with different profiles and to enjoy extensive communication with the members of Glion. The HIP program has enabled me to operate the fine dining service, challenge myself with the services of VIP tables, deepen my knowledge of cooking, develop new skills, and also discover the world of front office and housekeeping. The part I enjoyed the most was the fine dining service. I learned and developed new knowledge, while also utilizing the skills I had learned before. Throughout these four weeks of training, I was able to put them into practice.

“The teaching methods used are based on communication, collaboration, teamwork, professionalism, shared experiences, motivation, curiosity and the use of our emotional intelligence. All of these skills are vital in order to succeed within hospitality. The HIP program provides both theoretical and practical immersion. Our lecturers boast significant experience and knowhow, allowing us to benefit from the most advanced teaching.

“These four weeks will have been a real asset for the future. They have allowed me to live the daily life of a professional in the hospitality world.”
