What are the benefits of a multicampus experience?

Glion Institute of Higher Education offers a truly multicultural education. Not only do you get to learn alongside students representing 96 different nationalities, you also have the chance to study in two amazing countries, Switzerland and the UK (in the capital city of London). We spoke to Glion students Aimée, Shavani and Thuy about what it’s like to study on multiple campuses.

Two countries, one Glion spirit

We have three modern campuses in two of hospitality’s most prominent locations. Our flagship Glion campus is located above Lake Geneva and overlooks the amazing Alps. It boasts brilliant facilities, including two recently renovated restaurants that provide valuable real-world experience. Also in Switzerland is our Bulle campus. Located in a peaceful town surrounded by stunning countryside, you can enjoy skiing, rafting, hiking and horse riding outside of your studies.

Growing up with a multicultural background truly opened my heart to travelling and discovering new cultures… The rare chance to study in two different locations, therefore, felt like a dream come true.

Our London campus offers contemporary facilities in an exciting city home to 100 five-star hotels and 72 Michelin-starred restaurants. Located on the grounds of the University of Roehampton, Glion London offers the same academic standards, programme structure and seamless transfer opportunities as our Swiss campuses.

Why study at multiple campuses?

After spending three semesters at the Glion campus, Aimée decided to do her fourth semester at Glion London. “It offered new insight into Glion,” she said. “It gave me the chance to meet students who had started their studies in London, as well as learn from different teaching staff. In terms of the academic programme, transferring to London was not an issue as both campuses are following the same courses at the same pace.”

Both campuses are quite different in terms of functioning, but both provide students with amazing experiences

Shivani chose to study in two different locations to see more of the world. “The opportunity to study in two different countries was a very exciting one, especially coming from a small island in the Caribbean,” she said. “It gave me the chance to travel the world and learn about two different cultures.”

Unlike Shivani, Thuy had already been exposed to an international environment. “Growing up with a multicultural background truly opened my heart to travelling and discovering new cultures,” she said. “The rare chance to study in two different locations, therefore, felt like a dream come true.”

Unrivalled benefits

Thuy believes studying in Switzerland and London gave her the chance to appreciate the countries’ different ways of living. “Although both countries are situated in Europe, they are different in terms of culture and lifestyle,” she said. “London is fast-paced and busy, while in Switzerland I was studying near nature.” Thuy enjoyed studying at both. “Switzerland was the perfect place to start my higher education experience, with lovely restaurants around the campus and friends around the corner,” she said. “Meanwhile, in London I loved being part of a buzzing city life.”

For Shivani, there were multiple benefits. “The experience has been unlike any other I’ve had,” she said. “I was able to make new friends and, in Switzerland, got to explore a country I’ve never been to before. It gave me the ability to grow as a person, and take on new tasks and responsibilities.”

Getting to interact with students from the University of Roehampton was a plus point for Aimée.“It gave me the opportunity to enjoy a new environment and interact with different students,” she said. “Also, the London campus has a wide variety of clubs and non-academic activities for students to make the most out of the Glion experience.” Shivani agrees. “The ability to communicate with people outside of Glion was one of my favourite parts of the London campus,” she said.

Making the most of your studies

Aimée recommends studying across Glion’s campuses to get a broader education. “Both campuses are quite different in terms of functioning, but both provide students with amazing experiences,” she said. “In Switzerland, there is a feeling of belonging. In London, we experience a more personal approach to education. I believe that the multicampus experience is one of the best ways to get the most out of Glion, both in terms of academics and personal life.”

Thuy credits the experience for expanding her social circle. “Being part of a multi-campus programme has given me a group of close friends in both Switzerland and London,” she said. “Although Glion’s Swiss campuses and Glion London are one university, I now feel like I am part of two families.”
