Working from home, but not as you know it – Master’s student, Vartan Gabrache, secures an internship at an innovative London bar concept

Studying an MSc in Luxury Management and Guest Experience at Glion requires commitment, diligence and ambition, something student Vartan Gabrache has in spades. And he put it all to good use finding an internship in the UK capital during covid. He shared how he did it and his advice for students looking for a role.

Vartan used the Glion internship platform, Simplicity, to find his role and felt confident he would find a position, even in the midst of covid.

“I was not worried about finding an internship, the only difference has been that you have to apply for many places and in the end, you will find a position”, he says.

“We have to be positive, I saw my internship on Simplicity, but before my employer had shared their opportunity I applied to a lot of other places.”

Gaining experience in all departments

Despite the global unrest and restrictions, Vartan was able to secure an exciting internship for a bar concept brand that creates venues which feel like walking into a flat share home environment, located in the capital of modern hospitality.

“The company is called The Little Door & Co, they have 3 bars in London”, he says. “From Monday to Thursday I am in the office and I do everything that sits behind the business, marketing, social media, communication, management etc. While on Friday I am in one of their venues to do the operational part. This is good for me because I can cover every part of their business.”

The perfect recipe for finding a role

Vartan attributes his success in finding an internship to four key factors, brought by himself and Glion.

“Glion gave me access to Simplicity, which is an easy way to find an internship, it also gave me good skills, preparing me to work in a hospitality environment. Plus, the reputation of our school is incredible.

“This combined with my own perseverance gave me the motivation to keep on applying for roles. I was committed to it, because I wanted to find an internship and learn as much as possible.”

“Never give up”

Vartan encapsulated his determination in advice for students currently seeking an internship or full time position after graduation. “Never give up. Try to apply and send as many CVs out as you can. And I am sure that if you persevere, in the end you will find a good position just like mine.”
